'I've been meaning to email you for a while Bones about your CD you kindly delivered with Greg the other week.
I've listened to it quite a lot and it gets better with each listening. I wouldn't normally listen to the type of music on the CD (being more of a metal fan) but I found it very easy listening, and with plenty of variety to keep my interest throughout.
I would have to say the stand out track to me is 'Disaster'. I say that mainly because I've had it stuck in my head quite a few times at random times. So it must have hit a chord.
Great singing on all the songs and great playing. I particularly like the pedal steel where it features and it's a great inclusion in 'Servo'.
You should be proud of the CD and are hopefully enthused enough to make the next one.
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know what I thought of the CD. So thanks very much.'

John Broughton stitched together a sensational feature about my album, 'Goin' Back', on his Retrospectives show, on Casey Radio - 97.7FM - a really great expose of, and tribute to, the songs, the inspiration, and the making, placing it all in a flowing context.
He paid all of us who were involved: Charles Jenkins, Douglas Lee Robertson, Greg Mackinnon, and myself, an immense honour by showcasing the album in this beautiful way.
It's something he has done for 35 years, celebrating music and the artist on community radio.

So proud to say I could wear the producer hat on this song and the rest of the album, co written by the esteemed Charles Jenkins. It was a wonderful learning experience for me and I reckon the whole thing is a cracker if I do say so myself!!
Do yourself a favour and check out the bandcamp link and place your order..
Congratulations to Bones Pauline Mackinnon on a stellar debut album!

Disaster is great one! Getting Marianne Faithful Broken English album vibes. Can't wait to listen to the full album right through. Congrats again!

'Goin' Back' - a real achievement!
Production and presentation excellent, voice true and the songs outstanding. (I printed off the words from Bandcamp.) Your song writing style brings to mind songs by Archie Roach, Lucinda Williams and Don Walker. Words matched beautifully by music from Charles Jenkins. A lot of variety and mood in the songs selected - a well-balanced recording. Well done Bonesy!

Oh I so love that you're on this journey!
The sentiment & carry in these beauties especially (for me).
Such soft, gentle voice of story and of strength.
I'm more of a 'support the album/you kind of person' to experience in a 'live' setting as opposed to possession, so I got really excited to see you'll be gigging down the road in October.
So excited for you Bones and am in awe that you've stepped out of life's challenges and stepped into this space (officially), coz I know you've been there forever.

I’ve been listening to it and really loving what you have done here.
First impression was how much of ‘you’ is present in the music. And like you, the sound is warm, generous. I feel good listening to it, touched by its heartfelt energy. You must be very proud of what you have achieved here. “You Bought the Sun”, “Disaster” and the title track are my favourites.
And while this is a solo album, you’ve gathered a crack team of collaborators here. Great band. There are a stack of stories, I’m sure, about how this all came together. I’m curious about the multi-instrumentalist from my home town, Douglas Lee Robertson, who must be a mighty talent. Then, of course, there's Charles, who seems central to the back story of your project.
Congrats too on the Out on the Weekend gig. Super! I know you will be well received.
